08.Nrsimha_Caturdasi_05.23.13_DallasSacinandana Swami, Rtadhvaja Swami, and Giriraj Swami spoke during the evening program on Sri Nrsimhadeva’s appearance day.

“My dear devotees, there are so many bad things in our hearts — even when we have practiced Krishna consciousness for forty-plus years, like me. There can be something like impatience and intolerance in the heart. It is a real thing. We are in danger in this world. We have accepted so many strange guests in our heart. Shouldn’t we make our heart a place for the Lord to reside in? Shouldn’t  He be our guest of honor? This making the heart a suitable place for the Lord to reside in is done by praying to Lord Nrsimhadeva to help us. It is done also by coming into the devotees’ association and understanding, ‘I am a fallen soul. My achievements in devotional service are very weak and modest. I require the mercy of the Lord in my life.’ With this understanding you can pray to Lord Nrsimhadeva to protect you from the six internal enemies that make our hearts so unpleasant.” — Sacinandana Swami

On Saturday, May 22, devotees from Dallas, Houston, and other places gathered to celebrate Jagannatha Ratha-yatra in Dallas. After the parade, His Holiness Giriraj Swami spoke about the significance of the festival–and of initiation. Then His Holiness Rtadhvaja Swami and he accepted some disciples for first and second initiation.

“We are all suffering sinful reactions. It is due to sinful reactions that we suffer, and it is due to sinful reactions that we have doubts and remain in duality: ‘Should I become Krishna conscious, or should I try to enjoy the world?’ We have doubts; we are in duality. ‘Krishna consciousness is nice, but will I be successful? What if I put my efforts into Krishna consciousness and am unsuccessful? If I surrender to Krishna, will He really take care of me?’

“These dualities afflict people who are not free from sinful actions and reactions. So many doubts. And the duality continues as long as we are suffering sinful reactions. So to become free of sinful reactions we engage in these activities: chanting, dancing, honoring prasada, and hearing krsna-katha. As we become purified we become free from doubts and dualities and can take wholeheartedly to the process.” – Giriraj Swami

Beautiful Krsna-Balarama Deities were presented to Giriraj Swami on August 24, by Kunjabihari dasa. The account of how the Deities came to him–to be given to his guru maharaja–will be posted soon. The Deities were painted and dressed on Lord Balarama’s Appearance Day, August 28, by Padadhuli dasi and then brought to the temple, in Houston, for puja and abhiseka performed by Giriraj Swami, Rtadhvaja Swami, and others. The next day, Giriraj Swami carried the Deities to Santa Barbara, where They were placed on his altar.

On Krishna Janmastami, five days later, Kuntidevi offered Them a new outfit and decorated Them. You may see Their beautiful divine forms in the photos that follow.
